Today when people shop for hip hop clothing, they are likely to want new Akoo clothing. Akoo clothing founded by rapper T.I. and Jason Geter. The two are also co-founders of Grand Hustle Records in Atlanta. The name of Akoo clothing is actually an acronym. Akoo stands for “A King Of Oneself”. After Akoo was released in 2008 consumers began to buy Akoo clothing across the country, but the company was quickly sued by a social Music TV Network that had carried the name “Akoo International” years prior to the hip hop clothing line formed. Seems like that finally got settled as T.I. later talked about his clothing line in an interview with MTV.

“The direction of the clothing line, in my eyes, is upscale urban apparel,” Said T.I.

When people go to buy Akoo clothing they will find wovens, crew-neck tops, v-neck tees, selvage denim, and flannels to choose from. They will soon develop a denim collection made from high quality materials. The Akoo collection released earlier this year was not too flashy or “royal” however it did feature many street fashions that embody the hard working man. Though consumers who shop for Akoo clothes consider it to be a hip hop clothing brand it appeals to a large range of crowds. Different people have been spotted wearing Akoo clothing one of which is Larry King.

Streetwear is always changing and T.I. says that, “Akoo has its place without having its place.” He says that they will continue to produce high quality clothing that is fresh and also affordable. There is a philosophy that the brand tries to communicate with people who buy Akoo clothing, and according to T.I. it is that “the kings are out there and they know how to dress, and they will help us define Akoo’s legacy in the street fashion landscape from season to season.”

The design and spirit of Akoo clothing is influenced by music and the things that the designers have experienced in life. T.I. is heavily influenced by music and he wants to intertwine music and fashion and some of his own creativity as well with Akoo clothing. He went on to explain in the same MTV interview, “Sometimes you listen to a depressing track or dress down and dark when you’re feeling depressed. Sometimes we bang flashy tracks and dress to the nines when we’re excited or feeling good. Music and Fashion are tools we use to express ourselves, and they feed and complement off of each other tremendously.” I’m sure all people who buy Akoo clothing can relate to this philosophy in some way.
